About Project REBUILD
Project REBUILD, Inc. was created as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) in July 1999. The purpose of Project REBUILD is to re-engage out-of-school youth and support them as they work to obtain their high school diploma or GED and become job-ready while also constructing housing for low and moderate income individuals and families. 90% of youth served by Project REBUILD qualify as living at or below the poverty level. The program provides education and job training to at-risk youth between the ages of 16 and 24.

Project REBUILD is an affiliate of the nationally recognized YouthBuild USA program, whereby young people are given the opportunity to earn a high-school diploma or GED while learning construction skills through the rehabilitation or construction of affordable housing. The long term goal is to transform the lives of at-risk youth through education and job training so they may become educated, working, productive contributors to the community. Historically, the youth served by Project REBUILD have quit school or dropped-out, deepening their spiral into poverty. Youth also learn the importance of helping each other and contributing as members of their community. Project REBUILD involves the not-for-profit, government, educational, and business sectors in a partnership to minimize the economic dependency and the incarceration of young people.

About Project Rebuild

The Project REBUILD Community High School opened in 2006. The school is sponsored by the Ohio Council of Community Schools and funded in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Project REBUILD supports the belief that, if given the chance, young people will choose knowledge over ignorance, skill over incompetence, work over welfare, independence over dependence, and legitimate over illegitimate activities. All that is required is for young people to be given caring, cohesive, compassionate support and an opportunity to develop at their own pace.

The school is dedicated to these principles and seeks to educate students using the adult learning model, which incorporates explanation with reinforcement by demonstration, integrated with practice, and summarized by feedback. The educational model is the nationally established Youth Build Charter School design. It is an Ohio Department of Education certified vocational high school which offers young people construction skills through in-class learning and hands-on construction. The design has been proven effective with this targeted population locally through Project REBUILD, statewide and nationally.

Student participation includes an at-risk high school population consisting of students who have not been successful in traditional school settings. The program comprehensively meets the targeted students' needs by creating a supportive learning community that offers a program of appropriate education, employment skills training, social services, peer support, leadership development, life skills education, as well as GED classes offered through Project REBUILD, Inc.

The work of Project REBUILD reaches its goals through realizing the achievement of the Project REBUILD Community High School, as at-risk students transform their lives and rebuild their communities.
